Only Registered Insurance Agents & Brokers May Operate
The Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA), established under Act No. 3 of 2001, is responsible for regulating and supervising financial institutions and services in Namibia.
Under the Long- and Short-Term Insurance Acts, no one may operate as an insurance agent, broker, or reinsurance broker (excluding salaried insurer employees) unless officially registered with NAMFISA.
Key Legal Requirements:
- Only registered insurance agents or brokers may legally operate in Namibia.
- It is a criminal offence to transact with an unregistered agent or broker.
- Convictions can result in fines of up to N$150,000, up to 10 years' imprisonment, or both.
