We at NAMFISA came across complaints from consumers who have become victims or have fallen prey, having entrusted their respective agents and or

personnel/staff of companies (e.g. an insurance company or credit facility company), to make premium or account payments on their behalf. These unscrupulous agents or employees tend to take advantage by embezzling or

misappropriating the funds entrusted to them by the consumers. As a result of non-payment/receipt of premiums, a consumer’s accounts are not paid and their policies lapse.

• Consequently, we advise that consumers either sign debit orders or stop orders. Alternatively, continue paying their accounts or bills over the counters of the particular companies or financial service providers in person.
